As A Deer Pants For Streams Of Water, So My
Soul Pants For You O Lord
(Psalm 42:1-2)
GOD’S MEDDLESOME WAYS
Here is a reality that can
change your life: God loves you so much that He will not let you
stay where you are—because where you are is not where you need to
be.
This is tough for us to
swallow. We think we know what’s best for our lives, but like the
men in the New Testament who fished all night and caught nothing,
our self-directed efforts ultimately lead to fruitless labor,
meaningless activity and wearisome toil. Then, Jesus shows up and
says, “Cast your nets on the right hand side of the boat.” And, as
they submit to Him and follow His will, their lives become fruitful
and fulfilling.
And, so will ours. But, it
requires that we yield to the meddlesome ways of a merciful God. It
requires us to live on the growing edge, abide in Christ and follow
His call upon our lives.
Among the most wrenching
scenes coming out of the Katrina disaster were those of dazed
individuals, clinging to the shattered fragments of destroyed
possessions, refusing to let go and move to safety. It is hard to
commit to change. But, it is in change that we enter the full and
meaningful life.
And, God the merciful Meddler
interrupts our lives and calls us to abide in Christ, follow His
call and live on the growing edge. God loves you so much that He
will not let you stay where you are—for where you are is never where
you ultimately need to be.
“. . .not that I have
already arrived or have become perfectly mature. But this one thing
I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining for what lies ahead,
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called
me heavenward in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-15).”
